Gigajoule Group

Gigajoule is a Southern African energy developer involved in the proposed Matola LNG import project, which its project materials say could connect to the Mozambique–South Africa gas network.

Gigajoule’s project materials describe its development of a proposed LNG import terminal at Matola and a 2,000 MW power station in the region. The company says the project concessions were awarded in 2019 and that it signed a joint development agreement with TotalEnergies to develop the project. [1]

History

Gigajoule’s Matola concept is designed to connect a floating LNG storage and regasification unit to Matola Gas Company’s network. Gigajoule says that network connects to ROMPCO, providing a potential path for regasified LNG to reach South African users if the project and connecting infrastructure are completed and contracted. Key milestones

  1. Launched a feasibility study for an LNG import terminal and regional gas-fired power station at Matola. [1]
