Discovery

History

Discovery began in South Africa in 1992 and listed on the JSE in 1997. The group subsequently expanded from health insurance into life insurance, investment, short-term insurance and banking. ^[1]

The company’s own founder account is important because it prevents an overly simplified single-founder narrative: Gore is Discovery’s best-known founder and continuing chief executive, while Discovery has also explicitly described Barry Swartzberg as a founder. ^[2][1]
