History

Aspen Healthcare began trading in 1997 from a converted house in Greyville, Durban. The company listed the following year through a reverse listing into Medhold Limited. [1][2]

In 1999 Aspen acquired South African Druggists for R2.4 billion. That acquisition joined the young Aspen business to a much older pharmaceutical lineage, so the corporate history distinguishes the 1997 founding of Aspen from predecessor businesses dating back to the nineteenth century. [1]
